It seems that when the printer goes into "Deep Sleep" my Macbook, iPhone, etc. Instead, set up the Brother by using the "IP" tab and entering the IP address of the printer there (requires a static IP for this to really work). By default, if OS X sees a printer through Bonjour, it sets it up as an AirPrint printer, which is fine for almost all situations, but not if the printer you use doesn't AirPrint for long. However, a workaround to keep Macs printing is to set up your printer as connecting through IPP. When that process is dead, iOS devices won't be able to print, Macs configured to use AirPrint won't be able to print, but other things will.Ī solution to this would have to come from Brother in the form of a firmware update. So, from what I can see, whatever process that's running on the printer that does Bonjour or AirPrint processing probably dies when it runs out of memory or something.

When the printer fails to work with the Apple devices, it will still work with any Windows devices or any other devices using another protocol, like IPP. The common thread between all the devices that are failing to print is that they all are trying to print through the printer's Bonjour/AirPrint support. The only thing that makes it work again is to yank the power and start over. However, after some time ranging between a few hours to a few days, this stops working. Basically, when I plug in the printer, it powers up, connects to the wireless network, and prints just fine from the Apple devices. I have "Deep Sleep" completely disabled on my printer and it has a static IP, yet I still see the same problem. Repeat from step 1, but for Paper Handling select 'Odd Only' this time to print the odd-numbered pages on the back of the even-numbered pages. In my experience with the HL-L2360DW, the problem is not the "Deep Sleep" mode, but a failure of the mDNS/AirPrint/Bonjour stuff on the printer.
